Four people were reportedly shot dead in Iseyin, a town in Oyo State, during a clash between some customs officials and suspected smugglers.

It was reported that the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when some residents were still celebrating the Eld-Fitri festival.

Sources disclosed that the four people died due to gunshots they sustained when the customs officers engaged with the smugglers.

It was learnt that the customs officials started firing after intercepting smuggled goods coming across the borders.

Sources said some of those hit by stray bullets were residents who were on the spot to enjoy the Eld-Fitri celebrations.

Residents reported that four people died as a result of the shooting, while one person was seriously injured in the incident.

However, all efforts to get a reaction from the spokesperson of the Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Kayode Wey, proved futile.
