Matshepo Maleme Says She Is Not Ill

Actress and performer Matshepo Maleme

Actress and performer Matshepo Maleme vehemently deny the false rumours circulating about her. After her character Rea tragically passed away from cancer, many people mistakenly believed that she was battling the disease in real life.

The Joburg-based actress reassured everyone that she was fine and dismissed the stories circulating about her as fictitious. She humorously remarked that it seemed like people were just trying to play a joke on her and almost derail her future with their made-up stories.

The actress cleverly expressed her belief that it is time people stopped this behaviour, regardless of their level of fame. Matshepo stated that she is in good health and good spirits. Interviews are not her thing, she says.

“I figured if you start sharing your most personal and confidential information with the public, you have to do it your whole life. The public has no right to make diagnoses. I’ve never tested for all these things, and yet someone unknown to me just decides in their gut that this person is sick,” she said.

“You’re sabotaging my future opportunities and prospects because no one wants to interact with you. If you think you can’t do the job, that’s unfair to me. It’s criminal. It’s not only unfair to me, it’s unfair to my family,” she said.

“I prefer interviews on the radio or on screen because then the public can hear my voice. It’s about me speaking for myself and telling my side of the story. News is often twisted and spiced up,” she said.
