The 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze of the Nigerian Army has confirmed an ongoing joint military and police operation in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State and adjoining communities following an intelligent report on the existence and establishment of illegal camps allegedly set up by suspected members of the Eastern Security Network ESN of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB.

Confirming the joint operation, the Brigade Public Relations Officer, Lt. Babatunde Zubairu, said available intelligence reports show that some unknown armed men suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network of IPOB have set up illegal training camps in the areas with the intention of disrupting security and destabilizing peace in the region.

To ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order, a group of security forces including the Nigerian Army, Air Force and Police stormed the area to storm these illegal camps.

Zubairu noted that the men applied professional rules of engagement as military helicopters were deployed in the area to search the illegal camps of suspected members of the Eastern security network to prevent any breach of security.

However, he pointed out that civilians and residents of the area will not be inconvenienced in any way, as the operation is not taking place in residential or commercial areas, but in the bushes and forests where the camps are located.

The spokesman, however, urged residents of the area to comply with their legal obligations, saying that the exercise is only directed against hoodlums who want to destabilize the existing peace in Imo State.

It will be recalled that about three weeks ago, there was a crisis between army personnel and some unknown gunmen in Orlu town, which led to the destruction of lives and property, prompting the state government to impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew in nine local government areas.
