The pressure is mounting on cemeteries across Cape Town, particularly for Muslim burials, due to the increase in COVID-19 deaths in the Western Cape.

The local community was outraged this week over additional fees charged for late burials at one of its private cemeteries.

The City of Cape Town says it is trying to provide additional burial space, particularly for Muslim burial grounds, which currently can accommodate 150 bodies a month.
