A funeral service in Paarl, Western Cape expressed her dismay after one of her hearse spontaneously caught fire on Saturday morning.

Willys & Gallico’s funeral service said they were shocked and saddened after one of their vehicles left at 8am while the driver was on his way to deliver a body.

The incident occurred while one of our experienced drivers, Brandon Fortuin, was on his way to deliver the body of a deceased person to one of our loyal families to pay their last respects,” the company said.

The company stated that the driver and the body of the deceased remained unharmed while the vehicle was completely destroyed.

“The family still had the opportunity to see the body in its entirety to prove this.

“Willy’s & Gallico Funeral Home would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family and can assure the community (sic) that we immediately made alternative arrangements to ensure the proper burial of the deceased yet with the necessary empathy, compassion and respect, as we always do.

The funeral service said that the cause of this “unexplained incident” was unknown and “beyond human control.

“We also want to ensure (sic) and guarantee our community that Willy’s & Gallico Funeral Services, Vehicle Insurance Company, will investigate.

“We would also like to assure you that all our vehicles will be serviced at regular intervals to avoid such tragedies, but as we said, some things will always be out of human control.

“We can only take measures to try to avoid another incident.

Willy’s & Gallico Funeral Services said that in order to protect and support the family, they urged the public not to spread further rumors.
