News from BBC UK just announced the passing of HRH Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip the husband of the Queen of England.

Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died at the age of 99, according to Buckingham Palace.

The prince married Princess Elizabeth in 1947, five years before she became queen, and was the longest-serving royal consort in British history.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said, “It is with profound sadness that Her Majesty the Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle this morning.”

The couple had four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
