A foreign national wanted for a murder allegedly committed in Esikhaleni in August 2023 is currently hospitalized under police guard after being wounded in a shootout with officers. The incident occurred early on Sunday, 25 August 2024, in the Madlankala area of Esikhaleni.
Police, acting on intelligence that the 52-year-old suspect was hiding at a residence in Esikhaleni, confronted him there. When the officers entered the home, the suspect fired several shots at them. The police returned fire to neutralize the threat, resulting in the suspect being shot. No officers were injured in the exchange. The suspect was also found with a firearm and ammunition.
Once the suspect has recovered, he will face charges of murder, attempted murder of police officers, and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in court.
