Numbers of COVID-19 Cases Dropped In Gauteng

The number of COVID-19 cases in Gauteng has dropped significantly in the past two weeks, according to the Gauteng Command Council.

The committee gave an update Friday on the COVID-19 response in the province.

The total number of active cases is more than 122,000, and Gauteng Premier David Makhura says more than 925 critical patient beds are being added in hospitals.

Makhura says more than 5,000 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.

“We believe the number of cases increased in December and early January due to the holidays and increased mobility and travel between provinces,” says Mary Kawonga of the Gauteng Command Council.
