Nigerian artist Omah Lay, Tems to be detained in Ugadan police custody

Nigerian artists Omah Lay and Ms Tems will remain in the custody of Ugandan police until Wednesday, December 16.

The Uganda Police Force made the announcement via its official Twitter handle on Monday.

This came after the fast-rising Nigerian stars were charged in a court in Kampala, Uganda’s capital.

Ugandan police said earlier plans to release them on bail were suspended after their case was sanctioned by the office of the DPP.

The Nigerian Fast Rising stars were previously arrested by police officers in Kampala, Uganda’s capital, for flouting COVID-19 guidelines.

They were arrested after performing at a concert at Speke Resort, Wavamunno Road, Kampala, Uganda on Saturday night.

On Sunday, Mr Luk Owoyesigyire, who is the Spokesperson to the Kampala Metropolitan Police made the confirmation.

“Nigerian artist Omah Lay was arrested by police in Katwe, the venue’s manager, one Dungu Ivan, and event manager Prim Kasana are also in custody.

“Temilade Openiyi aka Ms. Tems (artist) was also arrested with her manager Muyiwa Awomiyi,” the police chief said on Twitter.

It was also collected that the managers and organizers of the event were also arrested.

Three police officers, including the head of the police station in the area, were also arrested.

The police officers were arrested for failing to recognize the criminal acts that were taking place in their jurisdiction, police said.

In their statement, Ugandan police claimed that the organizers of the concert initially held events for lunch and dinner, but later that night began inviting artists to perform.
