January 18, 2021, has been confirmed by the Federal Government of Nigeria as the date for the resumption of school operations across the country.
This is happening following pressure from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other stakeholders that schools should remain closed amid the second wave of the pandemic.
This was confirmed in a statement on Thursday after the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders in the education sector consulted.
As a reminder, on Monday, Education Minister Adamu Adamu said during the press conference of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 that January 18 as the resumption date was not sacrosanct. He had indicated that the date would be reviewed, without providing further details.
