Noxolo Grootboom is one of the most beloved news anchors in the country, having touched the hearts of many during her 37 years of service.

Many love the way Mama Grootboom presents news in isiXhosa and her use of humor to ensure viewers are entertained.

According to SABC Iindaba, the veteran anchor will lead the news cycle for the last time on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, starting at 7:00pm.

The news of her departure was confirmed by her employer, the SABC, on social media. Her fans and viewers in general immediately made her trend.

Although it’s quite sad to see a favourite go, many acknowledged what she has done in the industry and decided to celebrate her with sweet farewell messages.

Grootboom started in humble circumstances as a typist at the SABC in the early 1980s and made her way onto the television screen.

Over the course of her career, she has contributed significantly to the country’s history, covering significant events such as the deaths of Chris Hani, Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

In March 2019, the renowned news anchor made a guest appearance on 1Magic’s award-winning telenovela “The River.”
