Local hunters searching for the doctor and a nurse abducted along the Abeokuta-Imeko road in Ogun State have been attacked by gunmen in the bush.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that a doctor, Oladunni Odetola, the Director of the General Hospital in Imeko, and a nurse, one Mrs. Bamgbose, were abducted while they were traveling in a Toyota Camry with registration number KTU 584 FR on Wednesday night.

It was said that the gunmen came from the bush near Olubo village to attack their targets and took them, leaving their car in the middle of the road.

Since the kidnapping, local hunters have been mobilized to rescue the medical personnel from the gunmen.

26 local vigilantes were deployed for the rescue operation, with 10 motorcycles and two cars, our correspondent reliably learned.

However, the search party was reportedly ambushed by the gunmen, who fired AK-47 rifles at them, injuring two of the fighters.

DAILY POST learnt that the hijackers set the two vehicles ablaze and burnt nine of the ten motorcycles in Odetedo-Idi-Iroko, Imeko.

It was reported that the kidnappers contacted the family of their abductees demanding a ransom of N20 million.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, had earlier confirmed that the police were on the trail of the kidnappers.
